The much anticipated Australian leg of her “The Elusive Chanteuse Show” world tour came to Rochford Wines in the Yarra Valley last weekend as part of the A  Day On The Green concert series.  Our concert review follows…

The Yarra Valley turned up the heat reaching 34°C as we kicked back and enjoyed the cruisy sounds of Melbourne boy Jason Singh. With glass of wine in hand,  Jason entertained us with his ultra cool take on some of our favourite songs.

As the temperature headed south, dropping dramatically to 17°C the entertainment was heading in the other direction, with the talented Nathaniel heating things up with the incredibly popular ‘You’re Beautiful’.  Nathaniel treated us to some of his new songs followed by his take on older classics from Michael Jackson, Bob Marley,  Prince and Cold Play.  The crowd could not stay seated as he launched into his Aria nominated ‘You’.  He finished with ‘Live Louder’ leaving the crowd nicely primed for the big act of the night.

The stage was set.  A stark backdrop with the letters ‘MC’ written in gold created anticipation.  All around could be heard excited voices telling stories of how much and how long they have loved Mariah.  This amazing artist with her distinct five-octave vocal range,  prolific songwriting and producing talent,  has  impacted on the lives of millions around the globe. It’s no wonder her fans are so loyal and committed.Mariah_Carey_Did_You_Know

Then, as the rain began to fall,  smoke billowed from the stage and Mariah appeared wearing a stunning black sequined dress singing ‘Higher’.  Our breath was gone… she had taken it away.  Perfectly hitting those incredible jaw dropping high notes.  Hearing her vocal range in the flesh was truly awe inspiring. Rochford Wines, you sounded amazing.  Yes, Mariah had us ‘feeling emotions deeper than we ever dreamed of…oooh oooh!'[quote_center]Our breath was gone… she had taken it away.[/quote_center]With a quick wardrobe change Mariah appeared in a floor length pink gown perched perfectly on top of a grand piano singing ‘Cry’. There’s no denying it,  Mariah is a pleasure to look at,  a treat to listen to and a gracious host.  She was sweet and poised when interacting with the audience.  We were treated to all of our favourites from ‘Honey’,  ‘Always Be My Baby’, ‘We Belong Together’,  as well as some new material.

A talented team supported Mariah on stage.  Her band, dancers and backup singers all contributed to the world class show you would expect from someone in Mariah’s league.

As the night was drawing to a close Mariah left us with something special.  A breathtaking performance of ‘Hero’.  Dressed in a blue satin fish-tail gown, Mariah invited the audience to join her in singing this inspirational song.  What a spectacular ending to another sensational Day on the Green.
