Really! Yes really and why not! With more than 40 million donkeys in the world surely they deserve a Festival.
The festival organiser Linda Jay, of Warburton East, says the donkeys popularity is the motivation for the festival.
Linda, often seen walking a donkey down the main street, is amazed at how many people feel compelled to pat and chat about these noble beasts, who by the way, have been used as working animals for at least 5000 years.
The festival will be a day when all have opportunity to take a ride and learn more donkey facts as well as listen to presentations in animal care from a variety of experts.
The event will feature market stalls, fancy dress, live music and did we mention – donkey rides.
Funds raised at the event will be split between the Donkey Society of Victoria (yes this is a real organisation) and Upper Yarra SES.
